2026 Local League Rules & Options

The following rules are Local League Options and modifications adopted for the 2026 season. These rules supplement the Official Little League Rulebook.

1. Minimum Players to Start and Continue a Game

Rule 4.16 – Starting a Game
A game may not be started with fewer than eight (8) players on each team.-Yes

Rule 4.17 – Continuing a Game
A game may not be continued with fewer than eight (8) players on each team.-Yes

Rule 6.05(n) – Eight-Player Lineup
When a team starts a game with eight (8) players, an out will be recorded each time the ninth (9th) position in the batting order is due to bat.-No

2. Game Length & Time Limits

Rule 4.11 / 4.10(c)(2) – Time Limit
A game shall be considered regulation once 1 hour and 45 minutes has elapsed.

  • Any inning started prior to the time limit expiring will be completed.

  • No new inning shall begin once the 1 hour and 45 minute time limit has expired.-Yes

Rule 4.10(e) – Run Rule
The game shall end if one team is ahead by:

  • 15 runs after 3 innings

  • 10 runs after 4 innings

  • 8 runs after 5 innings-Yes

3. Offensive & Batting Rules

Rule 5.07 – Five-Run Limit (Minor Division)

Rule 6.02(a) – Batter in the Box
The batter must take a position in the batter’s box promptly when it is their time at bat.
After entering the batter’s box, the batter must keep at least one foot in the box throughout the at-bat.-Yes

Rule 6.05(b)(2) – Dropped Third Strike
Minor League and Tee Ball: The batter is out on a third strike whether the catcher catches it or not.
Major and above: Batter may run on a dropped third strike if there are two outs or there are less than two outs AND first base is unoccupied.-Yes

4. Courtesy Runner

Rule 3.04 – Courtesy Runner
A courtesy runner is permitted for the pitcher and/or catcher of record when there are two (2) outs.-Yes

5. Umpire Positioning

Rule 9.04(a) – Plate Umpire Position
The plate umpire may stand behind the pitcher (Local League Option) instead of behind the catcher. -Yes
